It’s official: Texas A&M associate head coach Rick Stansbury has left the team to become the new head coach at Western Kentucky.
Stansbury made his return to the sidelines in 2014 on Billy Kennedy’s staff after announcing his retirement as head coach of Mississippi State back in 2012.
What It Means
- The Hilltoppers are getting a great basketball coach. Stansbury went 293-165 as head coach in Starkville, which included six NCAA tournament appearances in 14 seasons. He also won at least 20 games in 10 of those seasons.
- Billy Kennedy is losing a big piece of his staff. Don’t understimate the impact that Stansbury had on Texas A&M’s program. Having a coach like that with such a tremendous amount of head coaching experience is a big deal. Stansbury will be difficult to replace.
