LSU grabs 4-star point guard Tremont Waters

LSU has picked up a big commitment for its 2017 recruiting class, landing 4-star point guard Tremont Waters.

Waters is ranked at No. 41 in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports.

Waters was also heavily considering Georgetown and Duke, but ultimately chose to head to Baton Rouge to join Will Wade’s rebuilding project.

Lovell’s Analysis:

I’ve talked about how big of an addition this would be for Wade and his staff.

Wade walked into a major rebuild at LSU, but thus far, he’s been able to add players that could make the Tigers a lot better than people expect. I’m not saying Waters is going to catapult LSU into the top half of the league, but he is gonna be able to help Wade implement his style much quicker.

His game should fit nicely with the style of play that Wade wants to see on the court, so that’s a huge plus right off the bat.

We’ve seen numerous guards thrive in the Wade/VCU system over the years – former VCU guard JeQuan Lewis comes to mind due to the growth that he made under Wade – and Waters could be the next one to take his game even higher.

Wade is trying to complete overhaul the LSU program, and to do that, he needs players that fit his system.

And getting Waters is certainly a big step in the right direction.

It may not result in a ton of wins during the ’17-18 season, but the future is bright for the Tigers as long as Wade keeps shifting all the pieces in place.
