Smart’s commitment now has LSU ranked 15th in the country in the 2018 team recruiting rankings.
Lovell’s Analysis:
This shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Wade has proven throughout his young career that he knows how to recruit. He helped recruit quality players both as an assistant and head coach at VCU, and did the same during his two years at Chattanooga.
Add to that the fact that he has the 15th ranked class in the 2017 rankings as well, and it’s no secret that the 34-year-old knows what he’s doing on the recruiting trail.
The addition of Smart gives LSU tremendous depth in its future backcourt. Wade has already signed two stellar guards in his first recruiting class in Baton Rouge, with Tremont Waters and Brandon Rachal likely making an impact right away.
Throw Smart into the mix next season, and this rebuild will definitely be further along than some thought it might be this early into Wade’s tenure.
