MSU’s Nick Weatherspoon arrested for DUI

Mississippi State freshman guard Nick Weatherspoon was arrested on Sunday for driving under the influence.

According to The Clarion-Ledger, the incident happened between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. near the Mississippi State campus.

Weatherspoon sent out a tweet in response to the arrest:

In a statement, Mississippi State head coach Ben Howland said that the matter would be “handled internally.”

Weatherspoon is ranked No. 34 in ESPN’s Top 100 for the 2017 recruiting class.

Lovell’s Analysis:

This offseason hasn’t exactly been a good one for Howland and the Bulldogs.

It started with granting a full release to highly-heralded big man Garrison Brooks in April (who later landed at North Carolina), then came the transfer of Mario Kegler.

And now, Howland is dealing with another distraction within the program.

Weatherspoon will play a big role on this roster this season, and his inclusion gives Mississippi State a dynamic backcourt that’s good enough to compete with anyone in the SEC.

However, incidents like this one certainly don’t do the younger Weatherspoon any favors.
