Bracketology: 7 SEC teams make Lunardi’s Dec. 28 bracket

Joe Lunardi has released his December 28 bracketology, and he has seven SEC teams projected to make the NCAA Tournament field.

That number is tied for second most of any conference, with the Big 12 also projected to have seven in the mix.

The ACC leads the way with 10 teams.

Here are the current seeds and matchups for the SEC squads included:

  • No. 2 Texas A&M vs. No. 15 Princeton
  • No. 5 Kentucky vs. No. 12 Missouri State
  • No. 5 Tennessee vs. No. 12 New Mexico State
  • No. 6 Arkansas vs. No. 11 UCLA/Temple
  • No. 8 Florida vs. No. 9 Rhode Island
  • No. 7 Creighton vs. No. 10 Missouri
  • No. 6 Cincinnati vs. No. 11 Auburn/Minnesota

Alabama is First Four Out line as the first team left out of the field, while Georgia is on the Next Four Out line.

Lovell’s Analysis

December bracketology is what it is, but it’s fun to look at.

Just seeing nine teams in the mix for an NCAA Tournament berth shows the strength of the league at this point, and now it’s a matter of seeing who will survive the grind of SEC play.

Some people are surprised to see Auburn joining the mix, but the Tigers have certainly made the most of their non-conference schedule in jumping out to an 11-1 start.

Of course, not all 11-1 starts are made equal, as Mississippi State has the same record but has a lot of work to do in conference play due to a poor strength of schedule.

So take this late December bracketology for what it’s worth, because there’s about to be a lot of movement going forward.
