Admiral Schofield led the way with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and tied a team-high with seven rebounds.
Lamonte Turner had another good game off the bench for Tennessee, with the sophomore posting 12 points and hitting all four field goal attempts and both free throw attempts.
Quinndary Weatherspoon paced Mississippi State with 17 points.
The loss was only the second at home for the Bulldogs this season after entering the game at 18-1 games played in Starkville.
Tennessee will go into Saturday’s regular season finale against Georgia with a chance to clinch a share of the SEC regular season title.
As for Mississippi State, it can still secure a double bye in the SEC Tournament depending on how things play out the rest of the week.
