Two SEC assistants reportedly in mix for Missouri State job

Vanderbilt assistant Roger Powell and Tennessee assistant Rob Lanier are reportedly being considered for the Missouri State job.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, both are in the mix for the position, which recently came open when the school fired Paul Lusk after seven seasons.

Powell just finished up his second year with the Commodores after joining Bryce Drew in Nashville prior to the 2016-17 season.

The former Illinois guard was a member of Drew’s staff at Valparaiso for five years.

As for Lanier, he’s been an assistant at various places, with his most recent stops being Texas (2011-15), Florida (2007-10), and Virginia (2005-07).

Prior to that, Lanier served as head coach at Siena for four seasons.

Missouri State finished 18-15 overall and went 7-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference after being one of the preseason favorites in the league.
