Mississippi State and LSU earn NIT bids

After the SEC earned a record-breaking eight bids to the NCAA Tournament, two more teams picked up spots in the postseason.

LSU and Mississippi State will both play in this year’s NIT after exceeding preseason expectations this season.

The Tigers, who went 17-14 during the regular season, grabbed a No. 3 seed in the tournament will host in-state foe Louisiana on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EST.

Should LSU win, it would then advance to take on the winner of Utah/UC Davis.

As for the Mississippi State, the Bulldogs will be a No. 4 seed and welcome No. 5 Nebraska to Starkville on Wednesday for a 9 p.m. EST tip.

The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 1 Baylor and No. 8 Wagner.

Georgia was in consideration for an NIT bid, but departing head coach Mark Fox announced on Sunday that the team voted not to play.
