Matta led Ohio State to the national title game in 2007 and to another Final Four in 2012.
He went 337-123 overall as the team’s head coach, which included nine NCAA Tournament appearances in his 13 seasons with the Buckeyes.
Georgia reached the tournament only twice in the Fox era and did not win either of their first round games.
The Bulldogs finished this season at 18-15 overall and won two games in the SEC Tournament before falling in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Kentucky.
Despite being in consideration for a bid, it was announced on Sunday that Georgia had elected not to play in this year’s NIT.
