Despite shooting just 35.6 percent from the floor, Auburn managed to hold on for a 62-58 win over Charleston in the Midwest Region.
The Tigers were far from themselves shooting-wise, as they made just 5 of 24 attempts from beyond the arc.
The poor shooting also carried over at the charity stripe, where Auburn shot 46.9 percent and made only 15 of 32 attempts.
But the Cougars couldn’t capitalize on the Tigers’ off night, and a big reason why was turnovers. Auburn forced 21 turnovers and was able to convert that into 21 points.
Mustapha Heron led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Desean Murray added 11, and Bryce Brown scored 10 while going 3-of-10 from long range.
Jarrell Brantley paced Charleston with 24 points and seven rebounds.
Auburn will advance to the second round to take on the winner of the 5/12 matchup between Clemson and New Mexico State.
