Florida assistant Dusty May named head coach at Florida Atlantic

Florida assistant coach Dusty May will take over as the new head coach at Florida Atlantic.

May was considered to be one of the front-runners for the position on Monday, with the school making the announcement official on Thursday.

He’ll take over for Michael Curry, who was fired after going 39-84 in four seasons in Boca Raton.

May just finished up his third season as an assistant for the Gators. Prior to that, he spent six seasons as an assistant at Louisiana Tech after previous coaching stints at UAB, Murray State, and Eastern Michigan.

After the hire was made official, Florida head coach Mike White issued a statement on May’s departure:

“Dusty has been an incredibly important part of every aspect of our program at both LA Tech and UF,” White said. “He’s got incredible passion, has a relentless work ethic, operates with integrity and possesses family values that permeate the program. FAU has found a great coach and human being, and Dusty May found a great fit!”

The Gators finished 21-13 this season and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Texas Tech.
