South Carolina has received a commitment from Georgetown graduate transfer Tre Campbell.

The 6-2 point guard, who will be eligible to play immediately, revealed his commitment via Twitter on Tuesday after it was announced last August that he would leave the Hoyas.

Campbell did not play last season and missed six of Georgetown’s final eight games during the prior season after suffering a knee injury when the team’s bus was involved in an accident in February 2017.

He averaged 3.4 points and 1.3 assists in 14.0 minutes per game during the 2016-17 season.

Campbell is a former 4-star recruit that received interest from several power conference programs, including Maryland, Penn State, and Xavier.

The addition of Campbell gives Frank Martin an experienced point guard option to add to the Gamecocks’ returning rotation, which could feature three of the team’s top four scorers if Chris Silva withdraws from the NBA draft.

Martin announced in late April that former point guard Rakym Felder would not return to school after missing the 2017-18 season, but the program will return Hassani Gravett add a few guard options in this year’s recruiting class.

The Gamecocks finished 17-16 overall this past season.
