Tennessee’s flagship radio network has shared an audio tribute to the late John Ward, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 88.

The Vol Network posted the tribute to Ward that aired during his final basketball broadcast in 1999, with the legendary broadcaster serving in that role for 34 seasons.

He began calling basketball for the school in 1965 before adding in football duties at the start of the 1968 season.

Ward did not miss a single game once he began those duties, which amounted to over 350 consecutive broadcasts that he called for the Vols.

He went on to announce his retirement prior to the 1998 football season, which would prove to be a memorable season for Tennessee as it went undefeated and captured the national championship.

Tennessee honored him as the “Legend of the Game” prior to its football game against Vanderbilt last season.

Ward was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame back in 1991.
