He took three official visits in June before making his choice, as he went to South Carolina on June 1, Creighton on June 18, and Tulane on June 20.
According to 247Sports, Lawson ranks as the No. 6 combo guard and No. 48 overall player in the 2018 class.
He averaged 14.8 points and 5.4 rebounds for Canada during the FIBA U-18 Americas championships a few weeks ago.
Lawson becomes the seventh new player to join the South Carolina roster this offseason, with Frank Martin adding five freshman and two transfers to the program.
The Gamecocks will look to rebound in ’18-19 after going 17-16 overall this past season.
