LSU forward Wayde Sims killed in Friday morning shooting

LSU forward Wayde Sims was shot and killed early Friday morning in Baton Rouge.

The shooting reportedly took place just after midnight at a Subway restaurant near the Southern University campus.

Sims, a Baton Rouge native who attended University High, was just 20 years old.

LSU head coach Will Wade released the following statement:

“We are all devastated. We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken.”

The school will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. CST to address the junior’s passing.

Sims played in 32 of the team’s 33 games during the 2017-18 season and averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
