Vanderbilt has officially announced the hiring of Jerry Stackhouse as its new head coach.
There had been rumors earlier in the week that the former Memphis Grizzlies assistant was the school’s top target, and both sides have now agreed to a six-year deal.
Stackhouse has experience as both an NBA assistant and G-League head coach, where he led Raptors 905 to a league title in 2017.

Vanderbilt athletic director Malcolm Turner was the former G-League president and is also a North Carolina alum, so the hiring of Stackhouse isn’t necessarily a surprising one.
Stackhouse will be tasked with getting the program back on track after its worst season ever, with Vanderbilt going 9-23 overall and winless in SEC play.
The Commodores are one of four SEC teams that have had a coaching vacancy to this point in the offseason. Alabama hired former Buffalo coach Nate Oats, and Texas A&M recently hired former Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams.
Arkansas is the only SEC job available at the moment, as the Razorbacks are still looking for Mike Anderson’s replacement.
