Alabama assistant John Pelphrey has been named the new head coach at Tennessee Tech.
Pelphrey joined former Alabama coach Avery Johnson’s staff back in 2016, but the recent coaching change in Tuscaloosa made it likely that the former Kentucky forward would be on the move.
Johnson and the school parted ways on Mar. 24, with the Crimson Tide eventually announcing former Buffalo coach Nate Oats as their new head coach.

Oats has already filled out his staff at Alabama, with Antoine Pettway being the only assistant retained from the previous coaching staff.
Charlie Henry and Bryan Hodgson are also both joining Pettway as the other assistants.
As for Pelphrey, he’s already been a head coach at both South Alabama and Arkansas, and he should be able to provide plenty of experience to a Tennessee Tech program that is trying to become a major player in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The Golden Eagles have not made the NCAA Tournament since 1963, and Pelphrey will look to lead the program to unprecedented success.
