Blayne Gilmer of Southeastern 14 is counting down the top five SEC quarterbacks heading into the 2023 Season.
Honorable Mentions: Joe Milton, Georgia’s QB, Ole Miss’s QB, Alabama’s QB
Too many unknowns there and too much inconsistency by Milton in his career as a starter. Same for Spencer Rattler, who also did not make the list.
No. 5 – Connor Weigman (Texas A&M)
He took over for Texas A&M as the Aggie’s starting QB late in the 2022 season and did not turn the ball over.
He’s got good mobility, a strong arm, and isn’t afraid to take shots down the field.
Add Bobby Petrino’s offensive playcalling in and you have a QB that is poised to have a strong season in College Station.
No. 4 – Will Rogers (Mississippi State)
Rogers has seen every kind of defense imaginable thrown at him during his time as Mississippi State’s starting QB.
This will be Rogers’s 4th year as the starter for the Bulldogs and in the late Mike Leach’s Air-Raid, Rogers produced great numbers. The style of offense forced defenses to try to be creative in their approach.
Rogers has the reps and the knowledge, now he must apply it in a new system. Rogers will go from Air-Raid to Pro Style with Kevin Barbay as Zach Arnett’s offensive coordinator in Starkville.
Rogers will have tight ends at his disposal for the first time in his career, and a solid group of returning receivers returns around him.
