SEC basketball writers wanted for 2017-18 season

I’m currently adding new staff writers here on Southeast Hoops.

With a few writers already set to get started in the coming weeks, I want to continue expanding our team to provide even more great SEC basketball coverage.

Here are some details on what I’m looking for.

Who These Positions Are For

Journalism students, those looking to add more experience to their sportswriting resumé, and/or people that simply enjoy writing about SEC hoops.

Having worked as a content director and editor for several large sports networks, there’s nothing I enjoy more than helping writers grow their audience and connections in the sports world.

I’ve managed hundreds of writers throughout my career, with some landing opportunities at various high-profile newspapers/online publications/etc.

While the current openings are unpaid, here’s what I can offer you in return:

  • Having your work read by a fast-growing audience that includes SEC players, coaches, and league officials
  • Co-hosting and guest opportunities on the Southeast Hoops podcast
  • Assistance on finding other sports writing opportunities
What These Positions Entail

I’m seeking writers for the following areas:

  • Team-specific analysis
  • General SEC analysis
  • Weekly columns (unique spin on SEC hoops)

Story frequency

The minimum would only be one story per week. You can write more than that if your schedule allows, but I’m not placing any strict requirements on what is currently an unpaid position.

Story assignments

In some cases, I will assign topics. In other cases, you will submit your own topics.

Story content

This is not First Take. All the wild and outrageous hot takes can stay on TV and social media.

I’m looking for contributors that are serious about providing quality coverage to the often overlooked world of SEC basketball.

That could include general analysis, player profiles, game breakdowns, and so forth.

How to Apply

Please use the contact form and include the following in the Comment section:

  • Your writing background (while you don’t have to be a Pulitzer Prize winner, some experience is required)
  • What area you’d like to cover (you can list a specific team or general SEC)
  • Links and/or copy and paste text of previous work (you MUST include a writing sample to be considered for these positions)

Also, even if have no interest in contributing, be sure to pass this along to any young sportswriters or journalism students that may be interested.

It’s going to be an exciting season here at Southeast Hoops.
