2018 combo guard Serrel Smith commits to Ole Miss

Serrel Smith, a product of Saint Petersburg, FL., verbally committed to Ole Miss after a recent official visit to Oxford.

Several notable programs including Wichita State, Dayton, and Memphis recruited Smith up unto the point of his commitment.

The 4-star guard, per ESPN rankings, is Andy Kennedy’s first commitment for the 2018 recruiting year.

During his junior season at Saint Petersburg High, the 6-foot-3, 170-pound Smith averaged 27.3 points per game.

Analysis

Kennedy and the Ole Miss staff are high on Smith’s overall skill set and shooting ability, and believe he can boost Ole Miss on both sides of the basketball.

The Rebels will see Deandre Burnett graduate during the next off-season, so the arrival of a quick, technically-gifted guard will fit the squad quite nicely.

Andy Kennedy is making moves early on during the recruiting period. If he can compile a few more quality signings to go alongside Smith, the Rebels may be able to bring in a solid class that can compete at the highest level in the SEC.
