Florida opens up regular season play on November 13 against Gardner-Webb.
Lovell’s Analysis
There’s little reason to risk playing Chiozza until he’s fully ready to go, so Mike White and company have some time to see how the healing process goes.
Chiozza could have a breakout season after playing a big role in Florida’s run to the Elite Eight last year, and the Gators will need him to be at his best in order to compete for a SEC regular season title.
This team is loaded with talent across the board, with fellow returning guard KeVaughn Allen being a legit SEC Player of the Year candidate.
There’s also the addition of Virginia Tech transfer Jalen Hudson and Rice transfer Egor Koulechov, who played extremely well against Jacksonville.
But few can match Chiozza’s speed and on-ball defending, so it’s essential that he’s at full strength before returning to the court.
