Auburn places two basketball staff members on leave

Auburn has placed staff members Frankie Sullivan and Jordan VerHulst on administrative leave.

The school announced that both would be placed on leave indefinitely due to the ongoing investigation into the program:

“The Auburn Athletics Department has placed men’s basketball support staff members Jordan VerHulst and Frankie Sullivan on administrative leave until further notice based upon the University’s ongoing investigation into the program.”

VerHulst is in his fourth season at Auburn and was recently promoted to Special Assistant to the Head Coach.

Sullivan serves as the team’s Video Coordinator.

The Tigers opened the season with a 102-74 victory over Norfolk State last Friday.

Lovell’s Analysis

And the developments keep coming at Auburn.

Just when things had started to slow down and the focus had turned back to the court, two staff members are forced to step away indefinitely.

It really has been quite the turn of events for this program after a summer of positives, which included a successful trip to Italy and the continued development of an already talented roster.

But the Chuck Person’s arrest happened, and it has set off a chain of events that has featured two key players (Austin Wiley and Danjel Purifoy) being sidelined indefinitely and now two staff members being put on leave.

While the players were clearly able to turn the page in the dominant win over Norfolk State, you have to wonder how much this will affect the team’s focus going forward.

The competition gets much tougher for the Tigers this week, as they prepare to tip off play in the Charleston Classic on Friday against a red-hot Indiana State squad.
