The SEC’s biggest gainers this week were the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators.
The Gators jumped up 17 spots after grabbing marquee wins over Arkansas and Kentucky while Avery Johnson’s team moved up 12 spots after extending its current overall win streak to four consecutive games with wins over Auburn and Mississippi State.
Auburn remains atop the SEC RPI standings and is currently the league’s only team inside of the RPI top 10. The Tigers will face two top 100 opponents this week in Missouri and LSU.
Tennessee and Kentucky have swapped positions this week after the Wildcats lost both of last week’s contests.
This past week did see a couple of SEC teams fall substantially. Arkansas dropped 14 spots while LSU fell 36 spots. Both teams didn’t have the week they wanted; however, there is plenty of time for redemption.
Lastly, let’s touch on this weekend’s SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
All ten Big 12 teams competing in the challenge are rated inside the RPI top 100. Only one SEC team (Vanderbilt) is outside the top 100.
Every single game on the agenda will have meaning and consequences regarding NCAA Tournament berths and seeding.
This weekend’s challenge could will offer a huge resume boost to any team getting a win. If the SEC is to win the challenge, look for even more respect to come the league’s way.
