With less than 30 days until Selection Sunday, the SEC is still in prime position to set a new record for the conference with a possible 7-10 bids.
Not much movement occurred last week as SEC teams continued to beat up on one another.
Auburn was defeated by Texas A&M in dramatic fashion, but maintained its top 10 RPI. The Tigers will have another opportunity to make a statement when Kentucky comes to town on Wednesday night.
Teams like Alabama, Arkansas, and Missouri appear to be safe in almost all bracket projections; however, this week presents some challenges that could drastically affect RPI.
For example, Alabama faces LSU in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday night. If the Tide drop that game, ‘Bama could easily descend to a sub-50 RPI with other results.
Keep in mind those types of games will be big for teams like LSU, Mississippi State, and South Carolina who are currently on the outside looking in. Carolina faces two Top-25 opponents this week and although the Gamecocks currently sit at 12-12 overall, back-to-back wins over highly-regarded opponents would boost them right back into the forefront of the bubble discussion.
Eight teams are currently projected to make the NCAA Tournament, but there’s still three weeks to play before we find out which teams will be dancing in March.
