West Region: Texas A&M sneaks past Providence with 73-69 victory

Texas A&M overcame a slow start and used a balance scoring effort to earn a 73-69 win over Providence in the West Region.

The Aggies missed their first 10 shots of the game, but were able to recover thanks to a productive night from four starters.

Admon Gilder led the way with 18 points, while T.J. Starks added 15.

But it was the play of the big men down low that made the difference for Texas A&M. Tyler Davis finished with a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Robert Williams had a double-double of his won with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Providence was paced by Rodney Bullock, who scored a game-high 22 points. Alpha Diallo added 21.

Texas A&M shot 50.0 percent from the floor, but struggled to seal the win after going just 15 of 26 from the free-throw line.

The Aggies dominated the glass in grabbing a 44-26 advance on the boards, including 11 offensive rebounds.

With the win, Texas A&M sent the SEC to a 5-0 start in NCAA Tournament play.

Billy Kennedy’s team will advance to take on the winner of the 2/15 matchup between North Carolina and Lipscomb.
