New Auburn athletic director Allen Greene recently discussed Bruce Pearl’s future as the team’s head coach.
In a ‘Tiger Talk Podcast’ for the Auburn sports website, Greene was asked about Pearl’s status and what it could mean going forward for the program.
“The FBI investigation is a long process and we’re going through that process to make sure that we as a university are doing what it is that we’re supposed to do to comply,” Greene said. “ Coach Pearl has been excellent in that regard. I look forward to working with him as we continue to do the very best to support (him), his staff and the student-athletes at Auburn university.”
Rumors have been swirling regarding Pearl’s future with the school due to the FBI investigation that rocked college basketball back in October.
Former Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person was arrested during that process, which also included year-long suspensions for sophomores Austin Wiley and Danjel Purifoy.
The NCAA recently announced that both players would eligible next season should they return to the school, with Purifoy having to serve a suspension for the first 30 percent of the team’s games next season.
The Tigers captured a share of the SEC regular season title this season, but suffered an 84-53 loss to Clemson in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Greene took over as Auburn’s new AD on January 19.
