Alabama sophomore Braxton Key has announced that he will transfer from the program.

The school announced the news via Twitter on Friday, with Key responding shortly after by thanking the Crimson Tide coaches and fans.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Key will be forced to sit out the 2018-19 season and have two years of eligibility remaining when he returns to the court the following year.

The 6-8 forward averaged 7.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this past season, but missed the first 10 games due to injury.

During his freshman season in Tuscaloosa, Key led the Tide in scoring and minutes by averaging 12.0 points in 29.8 minutes per game.

Despite the departure of Key and star freshman Collin Sexton, Alabama will return several important rotation players while adding Texas transfer Tevin Mack and senior Riley Norris, who missed the majority of the season with a hip injury.

The Tide finished 20-16 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champion Villanova.
