Due to NCAA transfer rules, he would be forced to sit out a year before being able to return to action during the 2019-20 season.
Johnson, who played his high school basketball in Birmingham and is the son of Alabama legend Buck Johnson, was rated as a 3-star prospect and the No. 9 combo guard in the 2017 recruiting class.
Auburn was one of many schools to offer Johnson during that recruiting period.
Bruce Pearl’s roster has experienced some changes since the end of the season, as Mustapha Heron announced that he would sign with an agent and entered the 2018 NBA draft while Desean Murray and Davion Mitchell chose to leave the program.
Jared Harper, Bryce Brown, and Austin Wiley have all declared for the draft, but are able to return to school since they haven’t hired agents.
The Tigers went 26-8 overall this season and captured a share of the SEC regular season title before losing to Clemson in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
