Higgs recently took his official visit to Oxford on September 1. Afterwards, on September 4, the Rebels were widely considered as a the favorite to land him.
He is rated as a 3-star prospect and the No. 11 overall prospect in Maryland in the 2018 recruiting class.
Lovell’s Analysis
Higgs is someone that Andy Kennedy and his staff have been working to get for a while now.
Higgs had also received offers from received offers from teams like Colorado, Cincinnati, and Kansas State. However, it was clear for a while that the Rebels were the leader in the clubhouse.
This marks the third 2018 commitment for Kennedy and company, who have certainly been busy as of late.
Serrel Smith, another 3-star prospect, committed on September 14. Ole Miss also received a commitment from JUCO shooting guard Brian Halums on September 21.
Of course, there is still work to be done for the Rebels as they try to build more depth in a rising SEC.
The strength of this year’s team will be in the backcourt, but going forward, there will likely be a concerted effort to build similar depth in the frontcourt after losing a do-it-all inside guy like Sebastian Saiz.
